The Lyric Poet: A Blues Continuum. (Delridge L. Hunter)

Who was the Lyric Poet?

Lyric poets are carriers of The Old Way fro Africa. They are the carriers of blues. The lyric poet is that individual who has carried on a tradition that is timeless. Orginiating within villages like Mbuwun in the Congo, the lyric poet has often been the outsider within his own community: called upon in times of crisis, yet despised and feared because of the mythological powers attributed to him over the centuries.
